Living with Host

What does this mean?

We offer a large comfortable double room with a double bed, a wall mounted telly, a wardrobe and shelving for your clothes . Our guest bathroom is opposite the guest bedroom. There is a "secret" cupboard behind the mirror set in the wall for guests to store toiletries etc during their stay. Took us 4 weeks to find it when we moved in and were overjoyed there's a secret cupboard in our en-suite too! lol. You'll have full use of our modern kitchen and can choose to sip your morning coffee on our Island in the kitchen, the sea view balcony or on the beach 100m away if you wish. It's lovely down there!

Guest Parking

Free street parking with no permits in our area and normally plenty of spaces to choose from.

The Area and Transport

Players Retreat II is a modern apartment with a sea view balcony, 12 mins walk along the beach to the Cliffs Pavilion and 13 mins walk to the Palace Theatre. If you are coming by car, you'll park up and not need it for your show run at all. If you are arriving by train, the good news is Westcliff Train Station is only a 4 minute walk away. There are plenty of top notch restaurants right on our doorstep and also a local hotel in the next road. They offer a Full English fry up for £8 inc coffee and a sea view roof terrace where you can enjoy the view at the same time as sipping a reasonably priced drink. There's plenty more restaurants to choose from 5 minutes walk away in our local High Street (Hamlet Court Road) as well as plenty of bars and shops.

Oh, one other thing, check in/check out.....due to the Digs Booker system, we had to state some times but in reality, we'll work with you if you need flexibility.

I had a wonderful stay with John and Juliet! They were so warm and welcoming, I immediately felt at home.

Their home is spotless, spacious and very quiet. There is plenty of storage in the room, a desk and TV. The bathroom has plenty of storage too, and is private!

The walk in along the sea took 10 mins and 5 mins to the trains station.
Parking was easy, the road is free with lots of room. John had put their car out in a space just in case I couldn't find one.

I highly recommend booking!

I had a wonderful stay with John and Juliet! Comfy bed, spacious room, right by the sea, short 10 minute stroll along the seafront to the Cliffs and free parking right outside - John even kindly saved me a space as my arrival fell on a busy, sunny bank Holiday. John and Juliet were the most gracious, lovely hosts and made me feel welcome and at home from my arrival. Now my 1st choice when staying in Southend! Would 100% reccomend

John and Juliet are both wonderful hosts - super friendly, very generous and always up for a conversation sharing stories. Great location being in between Leigh / Southend and was very convenient to get around to see everything that it has to offer. The room was spacious, bed comfortable and the smart TV was a really nice addition. Something to keep in mind for any long termers, is that there is no washing machine. Thanks again for having me in your home for the week! :)

John and Julia are the perfect hosts. Firstly, the digs are in a really lovely apartment, yards from the seafront, and yet still moments from the railway station. 15 minute walk from The Palace Theatre. Ideal.
Great, private room with dedicated bathroom.
Perfect.
Two of the nicest folks you could meet.
Lovely.

I had a lovely week with John and Juliet. A lovely big room with plenty of hanging and drawer space. Your own bathroom just across the hall and free parking just outside. An easy walk along the seafront to the Cliffs Pavillion. I will definitely be returning 😊

I had the most comfortable and wonderful stay here, the bed was like a cloud and the view to the sea was the cherry on top of the cake!! I can't recommend John and Juliet's place enough!!
