Living with Host
The room:
It’s the largest of two bedrooms, being at the front of the property and facing south west. It’s a residential street and the traffic is light.
The house:
It’s a traditional Victorian terrace with open plan lounge and a kitchen at the rear of the property. I’ve only been here a short while but have already renovated throughout. The kitchen & bathroom still need to be done but despite this, they are totally functional, just not to my taste. There is a washing machine in the kitchen and a separate shower unit in the bathroom. Outside is an easterly facing garden with an external room which could be used for storage (bicycle?). At the bottom of the garden is the River Rea, there are spaces to sit and watch the kingfishers, herons, ducks etc. It’s also great for BBQ’s (I have a fire pit) and the neighbours are all really nice! It’s not at all unusual when the weather is nice to see people playing live music, cooking pizzas on wood stoves etc.
Guest Parking
There is parking on the street. Beyond the garden is a private access road where a single vehicle may be parked.
The Area and Transport
The house is in a well located part of Birmingham. It’s equal walking distance between Stirchley (great for food and bars) and Kings Heath (great for everything!). The Midlands Arts Centre is also within easy walking distance and can be reached via the River Rea path. If you enjoy green, open spaces, this is just the spot. You can sit next to the river via a private road (and parking space!) at the bottom of the garden. Beyond this there are woods and parks
Buses for the 20 minute journey into town are a two minute walk away.

Guests have use of a private double bedroom and shared kitchen & bathroom.
Excluded Facilities
Guests are not excluded from the lounge area but are given the larger bedroom so that it can meet their needs. It doesn't make any sense to me that if I want privacy in my own lounge that I would have to ask permission in my own house! If you want to invite guests please check if it's ok first, it's not a very big house.

Other rules
Bringing guests: I've found that having visitors as a matter of routine and on a regular basis is not an ideal situation. Inviting people to stay is not a straight "no" but should be with prior agreement.
Cleaning: I do my best to keep a clean & tidy house, but if guests assume that it is my role to clean up after them, this will lead to problems. If you leave a ring around the bath, for example, cleaning products are available to use.
