Self-Contained

What does this mean?

The self-contained basement suite in our Victorian terraced house is just 10 minutes' brisk walk from the Theatre Royal and city centre.

Although you enter via the front door and hall of our house, the suite is very private and we often do not see guests at all throughout the duration of their stay.

The accommodation includes a large bedroom with its own small, private shower room/loo and kitchenette.

When you close the basement door behind you, you are self-contained and private.

All permanent residents of the house are fully vaccinated and boostered.

The accommodation is deep cleaned, disinfected and fully ventilated between guests.

The kitchenette has a fridge, sink, microwave, kettle and toaster but no oven or hob. There are two electric, plug-in cooking pots.

Beds in the bedroom can be configured to sleep up to four people.

They can be arranged together for a couple, separately as twins or as lower single beds for up to four individuals.

The room sleeps up to three people comfortably - four is a bit of a squeeze and is offered really as a budget option for short periods of time.

Please note access to the room is via a steep staircase.

There is no TV but the Wi-Fi is good and guests usually bring their own laptops or iPads etc with them.

Please be aware that we are now asking guests to make payment on arrival. This is because our hours are very different to those of our theatre guests and we sometimes do not see them for the duration of their stay. Upfront payment avoids an embarrassing situation for everyone.

Ideally we ask guests to arrive from 4pm and leave by 10am as we work full-time and have to clean the room between bookings. We can sometimes be more flexible at weekends, however, so do ask us. We can also sometimes take luggage in earlier if that is helpful and let you hang on to the parking permit after checking out if the next guest does not require it.

Because we are so close to the city, parking can be complicated. Please contact us to discuss this.

Please ask us about our upstairs, self-contained bedroom/shower room/cooking corner which is now also available to theatre guests.

Fantastic digs and lovely hosts. A quick 15 minute walk from the theatre through a lovely park. Lots of local eateries close by, a couple of grocery stores within 5 mins. The basement was comfortable and spacious. There was a mild heatwave in the second week but the basement was so comfy and cooling. Abigail and Ian were lovely and welcoming. Would definitely stay again if given the chance!

Abby and Iain were great hosts and very communicative. The place was just as described, very spacious for a solo visit and would book again :)
