Living with Host

What does this mean?

Large twin-bedded/double room with its own bathroom/shower on the ground floor of a duplex apartment in a converted church, yards away from the Firth of Forth, and Newhaven Harbour with restaurants and cafes and yet only two miles from the city centre, with buses from outside the door going directly to all main theatres and concert halls. Room includes hair dryer, TV, wi-fi, bathrobes and slippers. I am trying to make this an eco flat, keeping single use plastic to a minimum. Please turn off plugs and lights when not using.
NB: From 24th July 2026 there will be an additional Edinburgh Council Visitor Levy of 5% on my current prices.

There is free on-street parking in my road.

The Area and Transport

Although my home is only two miles from Edinburgh City Centre, it is in an idyllic spot just yards away from the Firth of Forth and Newhaven Harbour. Buses go from outside my property directly to all the main theatres and concert halls, 20 minutes to 35 minutes journey time; there is an additional bus with a night service which runs from the bottom of my road and the tram terminus is a five minute walk away. The Playhouse is the nearest venue and is about a 40-minute walk.

This space is shared with 1 Host and 2 other paying Guests.

Usually I only let out the one, twin-bedded/double room on the ground floor of my duplex flat and it has its own bathroom/shower. But occasionally I may have a friend or another theatre worker staying in my study on the same floor, which would mean sharing the bathroom. I encourage my guests to treat my home as their home while they are with me and share the kitchen and sitting room.

I'm trying to run an eco-friendly house as much as possible, so trying to reduce the use of single use plastic. Please recycle your rubbish in the bins provided, and please don't leave laptops etc charging while you're out, and not on beds and carpets.
