Living with Host

What does this mean?

1, sometimes 2, good sized bright rooms with own bathrooms. The downstairs room has garden access and both rooms have use of the kitchen. In easy walking distance to the theatre in a safe suburban area.

Guest Parking

Visitors parking permits are required for the hours of 10-11 and 2-3 on the street immediately outside the house but it is free around the corner. However, I have an annual permit for my car so guests can usually swap with me and use my little drive.

The Area and Transport

The house is 10 minutes walk from the theatre, 15 minutes walk from the town and 25/30 minutes walk from the station. There is a little local bus into town from just outside the house but it goes all around the houses so it's almost quicker to walk! The area is quiet residential and guests assure me they feel safe walking home late at night. Some of the street lights go out at midnight. There are busses from the town centre to the beach at West Wittering and trains to Portsmouth and Brighton and beyond from the station. The town is small with a pedestrianised shopping centre. Much of the Roman wall is walkable and the Cathedral and Art Gallery worth a visit.

This space is shared with 1 Host and 1 other paying Guest.

Both bedrooms have access to their own bathroom. The upstairs bedroom which is not the main one let out, may sometimes have to share the bathroom if a friend or member of my family is staying (rare). Kitchen and dining area is shared with a cupboard and some fridge space available. If a guest is wanting to do a big cook for the week, I would ask for the timing to be by prior arrangement. Generally I ask that any items of cookware which are going to be taken out of the house or to the theatre are provided by the guest. Longer stay guests should provide their own foil and oil etc but are welcome to use the herbs and spices drawer.

The living room is not generally for guest use.

It was a shame my stay wasn't longer! Shelagh is an excellent host - impeccable cleanliness in a peaceful house. Only a short walk to the town centre and even less to the theatre. It was lovely to meet Shelagh and I hope I can stay a bit longer next time!

I stayed with Shelagh for around 6 weeks and had such a lovely time. The place is quiet, very clean, and the room is spacious (with a private bathroom). Shelagh has a very calm energy and it was nice to chat with her every now and again when we crossed paths. She allowed me to make use of her garage to store my bike which was very kind, and the room has a door to the garden which was so nice to have open on a clear day. I would definitely stay again!
