Double room with en-suite shower room set in a loft space conversion on the second floor, separate from the rest of the house by a flight of stairs. Very private, peaceful and light. Recently redecorated, newly installed shower and blackout blinds. Can provide a TV and small fridge on request. Second double also available on the first floor with shared bathroom. My home is a large semi-detached Edwardian house with a garden on a quiet residential road in east Ipswich. Guests have shared use of the kitchen, dining room and living room. The kitchen is a little outdated and dysfunctional (there will be a renovation happening later in the year), but has the basics ie. sink, fridge freezer, washing machine, microwave. No oven but a rather brilliant air fryer oven and plug-in dual hob all of which you are welcome to use. The living room has a woodburner, TV with Chromecast, and a Yamaha keyboard. Guests are also welcome to enjoy the garden, with its wildlife pond, veg patch and cabin.
I’m a professional musical director and teacher with lots of experience staying in digs myself, so I appreciate how important it is to feel safe and comfortable. I’ve been welcoming digs guests for nearly ten years now. Before moving to Ipswich, I rented out my spare room in London and met dozens of great theatre people from all corners of the business. My home has a relaxed, welcoming feel, with an emphasis on respect for privacy and personal space. It can be hard spending long periods away from home, so sharing the occasional meal or glass of wine after work is totally fine by me.
It’s important to me that anyone sharing my home loves animals. I am currently pet-free after my 15 yr old cat, Claude, died last year. But I don’t think that’ll be the case for too long. So I can (for now) potentially accept pets as long as they are clean and well-behaved, and you are prepared to take full responsibility for them. Please check with me first before making a booking in case this has changed. Also, if you are likely to want your partner or a friend to stay overnight during your stay, please discuss this with me too before you make a booking, as it will need to be agreed in advance.
I live within easy walking distance of Ipswich town centre, the waterfront, and both theatres. The Regent Theatre is a 20 minute walk, the New Wolsey under 40mins (or by bus in 15mins). Ipswich mainline station is a 35 min walk, a bus ride, or a local rail connection to/from nearby Derby Road Station . If you’re arriving/leaving by train let me know timings and I’ll pick you up by car if I’m free. Parking is free and plentiful nearby. I also have space outside to store a bike.
