Living with Host
Cosy ground floor single room, double glazed with central heat. New bed & new firm mattress; small wc handily nearby across the hallway. Use of family bathroom upstairs; & use of kitchen for preparing hot drinks, simple meals, pasta bakes, salads etc. All electric, induction hob. (Sorry no microwave.)
We often work from home - including using the kitchen for online work, writing etc. so we do prefer it if guests are able to use the kitchen fairly speedily! But we are also pretty flexible. Bosch washing available machine if you need to refresh your wardrobe :)
Guest Parking
Very limited on-street parking on weekdays, but there are some slots from 4.30pm or from 6.30pm overnight to 8am, or some slots to 10am, but most of street is Permit Holders. Better parking possibilities Saturday afternoons, & plenty available all day Sundays. Three Park&Rides exist, but I don’t know how that might work for overnight / longer-term parking.
Buses from here to centre (only about 4 stops!) every 10 mins or so, bus stops about a 4-min / 7-min walk from house. We strongly suggest renting a bicycle or using the city’s e-scooters. You can chain a bike up at the house. Low theft-rate in this area, but nothing guaranteed! (Our bikes look old & unattractive to thieves!)
The Area and Transport
We’re slightly outside Oxford centre, very near Jericho. You can walk / cycle / get cheap taxi rides to / from all main Oxford city centre theatres & performance venues, eg. Playhouse, New, Burton Taylor, Sheldonian… 30 min walk from Oxford Rail & Bus Stations / £7 taxi from either. Very near Jericho’s shops cafes pubs. This is a very quiet low-traffic street of small neat Victorian terraced houses, a friendly, smart (& quite posh!) neighbourhood. My mum called it ‘the Hampstead of Oxford’! Our house backs onto the Oxford Canal & the towpath is great for walking into town, jogging etc. Suggest hiring a bicycle to get around Oxford. There is very limited on-street parking, we get very few Visitors Permits p year, so please don’t bring your car. We’re looking forward to meeting you!

Strictly no smoking or vaping
Only certain pets are allowed
A quiet well behaved dog would be acceptable, if it could get on with our dog.

Other rules
Non-smokers ONLY. No outdoor shoes – bring house shoes / slippers. Be as quiet as poss when coming in & out, & be careful to close the bedroom door quietly. The kitchen-diner's available for making simple meals – pastas, salads, sandwiches, porridge etc. Bear in mind the kitchen / conservatory is also our home-working area, so it's best if you use it fairly quickly. Bring earphones for using your music / radio / TV devices – it's a small house so we have to be mindful of each other's different listening & viewing tastes! Leave the shower curtain open to dry after use; wipe down the bath & wash-basin after use. This keeps them cleaner, & stops the limescale building up. Use the dishwasher, and / or wash dishes etc after use. You can use the washing machine, & talk to us about where to dry clothes – outside in good weather, or in your room near the radiator in bad weather. Iron & ironing board in room. Chain bikes on metal rings at front of house. In warm weather you can sit in garden
What you can expect from these Digs
Strictly smoke-free
Pets are living at or visiting the property
Friendly dog lives here; other dogs sometimes visit; & occasionally we parrot-sit (he stays in cage)
This household follows a strict dietary lifestyle
We're actually not very strict, but are mainly vegetarian, preferring organic foods, low / no UPFs etc. We don't really like much frying of foods, especially of meat or chicken, because of the lingering cooking smells. We eat lots of beans, pulses, brown rice, wholemeal bread and masses of fresh vegetables and fruit! We try to be eco-aware, and use as many eco-type soaps etc as poss.
