Living with Host
A cosy, gas centrally heated, now pet free house in Colchester, where I live with my Caribbean partner Frank, who works & stays away most weekdays. Your room is comfy & heated, on the first floor at the rear of the house next to the shared bathroom & with a partial view of the garden. It has plenty of storage space, a double bed with new mattress (Dec 2025), duvet, pillows, linen, & electric under blanket for colder nights (we can switch this on before your late return from the theatre). Bathroom with shower, bath, WC & basin. Essential toiletries for the first night or two of your stay, & towels are provided. Well equipped kitchen with cooker, microwave, air fryer, fridge freezer & cupboard space. You can use the condiments, oils, herbs & spices. We supply tea, coffee & milk. Lounge, dining room & garden also available to use. We are a trans and queer/LGBTQIA+ friendly home. We welcome guests of any nationality, culture, faith, ethnicity, sexuality, gender.

The Area and Transport
Our home is on a quiet residential street approx.10-15 minute walk from Colchester Town station, and 15 mins from Hythe (Essex) station, both serving London Stratford, Shenfield & London Liverpool Street. There is free on-street parking for anyone coming by car. The Mercury and Headway theatres are up to 25 mins steady walk (also accessible by bus from nearby bus stop), and the town centre is about a 15 mins walk. There is a good fish & chip takeaway, a lovely reasonably priced cafe, and a few convenience stores, including Co-op, Tesco Express and Aldi, all no more than 5 mins walk away. There are regular buses to the town centre and neighbouring towns, as well as Stansted airport and Essex University.

The bedroom has a lockable door. All areas of the house, except your bedroom, are shared with us. You can use the house as your home. It has high speed wifi.

For safety reasons, the wood burner and fire can only be lit when we are at home.

Smoking permitted in garden. Vaping permitted indoors. Please remove your shoes on entry to the house (bring slippers?). There are some foods stored in the house that contain nuts. We ask that you squeegee the shower and remove hair from the waste after every use, to prevent limescale and blockages. We will explain how we recycle rubbish once you are here.

Smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector in property. Please take care on the stairs using the handrail, as they are quite steep, We are happy to light the fire (in lounge) or wood burner (in dining room) when we are home, but ask you do not do this yourselves for safety reasons. The house has good central heating so we will ensure you are kept warm!

Jennie was a lovely host, very welcoming and couldnt do enough to help you in any way. The room was great and very comfy and a nice easy walk into the theatre.

Jennie is a WONDERFUL host! Warm, welcoming, she couldnt do enough for me and made me feel entirely at home! Room was lovely and comfortable, right next to beautiful big bathroom with amazing shower, and she has two lovely cats too! HIGHLY recommend!

Jennie was a delightful host, always welcoming and friendly. The room was lovely and the location was really handy for shops and going up to the theatre.
