Living with Host

What does this mean?

We are Mark and Mark - a mature gay couple offering our spare double-room for use by theatre professionals. One of us works part time front of house at the Mayflower theatre so we understand the pressures and stresses you experience when working and the long, late hours you endure.
All you need at the end of a show is to return to a relaxed environment to unwind in peace and comfort. For that reason we offer space in our quiet 1930's semi-detached, centrally-heated home located by the river Itchen in Bitterne. We choose to share our home as a way of supporting the local Arts and to meet interesting people, not to make a profit - so we don't make surcharges for laundry or energy use,
We live in a quiet cul-de-sac with no through traffic. There is a local train line at the bottom of the garden but trains are short-length, infrequent and not intrusive - they do not run overnight.
We both work from our home most of the time so are available to help with queries.

Guest Parking

Free parking is available on the road outside our house. We can also make space on our drive if preferred.

The Area and Transport

We are in the suburbs, so acknowledge we are a little further out of town than some and our room rates reflect this. We do have good transport links into the city however and can offer help and advice on the options to get to the theatres. Buses are the quickest and most convenient and there is a regular service nearby. Bus fares are capped at £2 during the day and £1 after 6pm.

A one way Uber trip to the theatre averages between £9-£14 depending on demand and time of day.

We are located between Bitterne (15 mins walk) and Woolston (20 mins walk) each has a large selection of local shops, bars and places to eat. There are a lot of green spaces nearby to relax/walk.

This space is shared with 2 Hosts.

You will be living with us in our home and staying in the guest bedroom. You will have shared use of more or less the whole house ie shared bathroom, the kitchen/dining room, the garden and you are welcome to join us in the lounge/office if you so wish.

Being self-employed we both work from our home most of the time and are usually around to help with any queries etc., but are very respectful of your privacy and do not intrude unnecessarily on your space or time. That said, we are a sociable, well-traveled couple and are more than happy to sit with you in our kitchen dining room and chat over a cuppa/glass of wine as you use the kitchen, relax after a show etc.

Excluded Facilities

You will have the run of the house (apart from our own bedroom and the sewing room) and can come and go in any of the areas as you please.

everything about this stay was perfect. The Marks were a delight and so welcoming. Beautiful home, so stylish and comfortable. Little touches to make me feel even more welcomed and at home. I loved it!

One of the best digs I've stayed in terms of friendliness and welcomeness. Enough parking space for vehicles and bus routes were easy and often to the theatre, and a short walk away from shops. Would happily stay again!
