Living with Host

What does this mean?

You have a cosy room (3.3m x 4.4m into bed alcove) in a Victorian first floor flat near the foot of Easter Road. Comfy bed with electric blanket. Shared bathroom and kitchen. There is a biggish Tesco 5 mins walk down the road (open till midnight Mon-Sat, till 8pm on Sun) and a Lidl (open 8am-10pm daily) 5 mins walk up the road. There are many cafés, restaurants and takeaways nearby, mainly on Leith Walk. Tigger, who shares the space, is a large short haired indoor cat who relentlessly sheds fur. Pity he can’t wield the hoover!

From 24th July 2026 I am bound to apply the Edinburgh Visitor Levy. This is a 5% additional amount on the first 5 nights of any guest’s stay and by my calculation will add £11.25 to your bill, if you are staying for at least 5 nights. I have to collect this for Edinburgh Council.

Guest Parking

The flat is in the N7 resident permit zone. There is currently free on street parking quite nearby. HOWEVER, it is in high demand and a space cannot be guaranteed.

The Area and Transport

Easy and direct access by bus (numbers 1 & 35) from stop outside flat to all main theatres, Waverley train station and Edinburgh bus station. The Balfour St tram stop (direct to Edinburgh airport in around 50 mins) and plenty more bus services are available at Leith Walk which is 6-7 mins away on foot. From the flat it’s around 20-25 mins walk to the Playhouse, depending on your stride!

This space is not shared with anyone else.

The guest room door is lockable but nobody has ever asked for the key. I will always have a key. I would only enter the guest bedroom by arrangement - to change bed, empty bin and hoover, depending on length of stay - or as required in an emergency.

Excluded Facilities

The hosts’s living room, bedroom and box room are off limits.

I had a very lovely stay here, Hazel was such a friendly host and I adored her cat Tigger. My room was very comfortable and I was able to get to and from work at the Playhouse super easily. I would absolutely stay here again.

Another wonderful stay at Hazel’s, this place really does feel like home whenever I come to Edinburgh! Close to the theatres, shops and public transport, the comfiest bed I’ve ever slept on and of course Hazel and her lovely cat! Just the best host ever, can’t thank you enough for having me back! Thanks again and hopefully see you soon.
