I have two rooms available for guests in my home. The main double (1) and single room (2) are situated at the back of the house overlooking terraced gardens for a peaceful stay.
1. A comfortable double room (single occupancy), close to venues such as Birmingham Hippodrome, Alexandra Theatre and Birmingham REP.
The room accommodates a double bed, drawers for storage, a hanging rail, bedside tables and a chair, bureau, simple necessities for a comfortable retreat from work. The bed is really comfy and has Egyptian cotton bed linen!
*firm mattress (people say it's Sooooo comfy!)
2. A comfortable and snug, renovated top quality single room.
The room accommodates a single Ikea day bed, allowing it to be both your comfortable bed, and relaxing sofa like area with cushions, drawers for storage, under bed storage, shelves for more storage (there's a surprising amount of storage space in there!) a hanging rail, mirror and bedside table, simple necessities for a comfortable retreat from work. Whilst the room is small ( please note: 2.3m x 2.2m), there is everything you need for pitstops and relaxation and it feels really cute and snug. It was renovated February 2017 to the highest spec. in terms of insulation and comfort).
You are welcome to use the rest of the house, play the grand piano at reasonable hours (!) or any of the other instruments, and enjoy the garden during your stay.
There is space allocated for your stay in cupboards and in the fridge and you will have a welcome basket on arrival with such things as tea, coffee, cereal, tunnock (if you're lucky!), and baked beans, to settle you in on your first night. Also random arrival times can often be accommodated where work affects your timings.
Lovely clean and tidy house, fitted kitchen and compact bathroom. The house has 2 bathrooms for ease of use. The upstairs bathroom with walk in shower, sink, toilet and underfloor heating (renovated February 2017) is for the sole use of Theatre Digs Guests during your stay, so it can be your private bathroom (or shared if there is another guest).
We also have a downstairs bathroom, with shower over bath, sink and toilet which can be used (if necessary or a clash with another guest upstairs).
Please note, I do have house cats (since March 2024) in case you have allergies. They are really friendly and sleepy cats, they are not allowed in the guest bedrooms and upstairs bathroom and I only let them into the kitchen under my supervision (no cats on the sideboards!).
To keep things clean and cosy, it's a "shoes off" house so bring warm socks or slippers.
There is wifi of course, as well as instruments. But far prefer the latter.
I am a professional pianist and piano teacher so the house welcomes musical and theatre professionals and our tendency for less than regular working hours.
Please note, I do teach piano from home Mon/Tues/Wed/Thurs/Fri from 4pm to 8pm or thereabouts so bear this in mind if that is not suitable for your timings. It is not very noisy but you would be able to hear the piano quietly from your room.
Smokers welcome but in the garden only please.
The house is situated on a quiet street in Bearwood, Birmingham with on street parking directly outside or on any of the streets around here. It’s a convenient location for all local theatres.
Less than a minutes walk from Bus Stop for: 127, 128, 129 busses which go directly into town/Paradise Circus/Rep/Birmingham Conservatoire/Central Library etc. and about 10 minute walk to Bearwood high street for the no.11 and many other bus routes, all convenient high street shops/supermarkets. Transport for West Midlands is a great website for checking the location of the house (Rathbone Road) and your journey needs. Local taxi companies and a journey in to town is about £7-£10. Lots of great local restaurants and takeaways too!
Beautiful park Warley Woods and golf course is just 50 paces away. This is a huge and most amazing park. I love it. There is a golf course, and you can get a great all day breakfast here too!
Fitness - We have a the brand new state of the art Sandwell Aquatics Centre a 5 min drive (25 mins walk) from my house, built in 2022 for the Commonwealth Ceremony with gym, steam room, sauna and epic pools.
There are quite a few other gyms nearby too...
Just invested in a steam cleaner. woo hoo! So your room will have a steam clean and airing prior to your arrival :)
Please note also, there isn't a shaving wall socket in the bathroom.
Whilst the house feels open and friendly, sometimes with classical music rehearsals, we quieten down around 9:30pm normally, as we're all busy working professionals. Additionally, due to professional commitments, we are conscientious regarding lifestyle choices in order to limit Covid risk and taking lat flows regularly. We hope our guests do the same and are mindful of this during their stay.
Ideally, check in from 4pm and Check out before 11am but always be in touch so we can arrange this according to your timings.
