Living with Host
We provide a quiet, comfortable bedroom with a quality king size bed. There is also a cozy snug next to your room with tea/coffee facilities, a couple of comfortable armchairs, a TV and films to watch. You will have sole use of the bathroom, which has a bath with shower. You will be our only guest (unless you bring your partner!). We have a large kitchen you can use and a lovely outdoor space for relaxing. We are a friendly and relaxed couple who will respect your privacy. We always get great reviews...

This is a spacious home in a tree lined private avenue, with free parking outside the house. You can leave your car parked here for your entire stay.
The Area and Transport
Our house is in a quiet residential area and a 10 minute walk from the train/metro/bus station and a leisurely 20 minute walk to the Empire Theatre. We have some gorgeous beaches and coastal paths to explore and we are a five minute walk into town. There are several local corner shops nearby and supermarkets about a 10 minute drive away. The nearest supermarket to the theatre is a 10 minute walk. Our guest says;
The best place to stay in Sunderland. A lovely combination of privacy but with a warm friendly welcome. It was absolutely the highlight of my tour. It is a very pretty walk to the Empire and a cheap £5 taxi back. The BEST!

Your bedroom and private bathroom have lockable doors. You also have exclusive use of a snug with TV . The large kitchen is shared with the hosts, Lisa and Gilly. We usually look after a grandchild on Wednesdays but it is rare that our guests meet her as we are out and about.

I had the best time here with Gilly and Lisa. The room, bathroom, and hidey are clean and comfortable and were perfect for my month in Sunderland. The rest of the house was beautiful and they welcomed me to use the space as my own. They're both lovely and interesting people who were great to have a chat with on the occasions our paths did actually cross. And the homemade chilli jam has happily toured with me to the next venue! Easy walk into town and the theatre too.

Super comfy bed and great shower. Big bonus to have a little snug too! On two occasions Gilly was out and left the wood burner stacked and ready for me to use in the evenings - such a nice gesture! Easy walk in to town and The Empire. Would stay again! Thanks for having me!

I really loved my week with Gilly & Lisa. You have a whole section at the back of the house to yourself, with full access to communal areas.
The walk in is through a park and home via main roads. Everything felt very safe.
I like a firm mattress so I slept brilliantly all week. Private bathroom and sitting room are both delightful and there is a good supply of tea.
Very much hoping to return to Sunderland so I can stay with them again.

Spotless lovely house & even LOVELIER hosts…
My second visit & it was just as nice as the first time. It’s a pleasant 20 minute walk through the park to the Empire & I always got a cab back as it was a freezing February at £6 . The room is so peaceful & the coffees & teas provided in the sole guest use ‘ snug ‘ are a wonderful touch . Having a sole use bathroom is also such a luxury.

I had a wonderful stay with Gill and Lisa. The house was lovely and the hosts were so welcoming and generous. The room was very well presented. Everything was clean and comfortable, a real home away from home. As a guest you also have a private bathroom and sole use of a sweet little side room which has a tea station and TV for DVDs.
An easy 25 minute walk to the theatre the location was perfect.
I cannot rate this stay highly enough. Genuine ladies who really take care of their guests.

I absolutely loved this place. It was my last week on tour and this place exceeded every expectation. Gilly and Lisa were extremely accommodating, polite, kind, generous just every positive word you could think of. This was a lovely place to stay! My room was spotless, with a comfy bed and very cosy and warm in the winter. Brilliant value for money with my own bathroom and lounge area, and use of kitchen never felt awkward. Had many lovely chats with Gilly and Lisa, they are honestly the nicest hosts you could possibly ask for and went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable. I certainly hit the jackpot with these digs, could not recommend enough!

Had the most fantastic stay with Gilly and Lisa! The room was perfect and the house was beautiful! Had my own bathroom which was great! They really went above and beyond for me and were extremely helpful and supportive when my car decided to pack in, even though they didn't have to. I appreciated them and feel very lucky to have stayed for the week! A 15/20 minute walk to the theatre and shopping centre. Free parking aplenty outside the house on a quiet street! Would stay again in a heartbeat.

Gill and Lisa are the perfect digs hosts - they instantly make you feel at home. The room being tucked away at the back of the house, along with a lovely snug next to it that is unused by Gill and Lisa, means you end up with a sense of having your own space that is particularly rare with hosted digs. Additionally, the bed is very comfortable and the whole house is kept beautifully clean. Can't recommend them highly enough.

This room was so peaceful, quiet, comfortable and very roomy! The bathroom was impeccable, and the shower pressure was amazing. Lisa and Gilly were wonderful hosts, who because of my schedule I didn't see much, just left me to come and go at all my crazy hours. It was a lovely home away from home, and If I"m in Sunderland again, I'll book here again!! Thank you!

Fantastic digs. Such lovely hosts and has everything you need. Private bathroom, comfy bed and a ‘snug’ room with tea / coffee and TV. Straightforward 15/20min walk to the Empire. Would definitely stay again!

The best place to stay in Sunderland. A lovely combination of privacy but with a warm friendly welcome. The house itself is very beautiful and lovingly restored . As a guest you have a large double bedroom overlooking the garden and a snug with TV and tea and coffee making facilities with bathroom which is so thoughtful and private.

Gilt and Lisa were quite possibly the nicest couple I’ve ever met. The bedroom was so comfy. The snug and bathroom were lovely. I was very happy. Gilly and Lisa even took the time to help me with my car problems, when I had to get to work. I can’t thank them enough. Thank you both xx

Perfect digs! I felt so at home here and the hosts go the extra mile to make you feel welcome. The house is beautiful and having the snug was a lovely touch. The area feels safe and calm, but it's a quick walk into town if you wanted to go out.

Gilly and Lisa are perfect hosts. The house is stunning and an easy walk to the Empire. My partner and I felt so comfortable and would stay again in a heartbeat! The bedroom is lovely and "the snug" is such an amazing bonus too.

Incredible Digs! Super Clean, friendly couple who love to chat at times but also respect privacy and alone time! Only a 20 minute walk to the theatre up through the centre. When I’m back in Sunderland again, this will be the 1st place I’ll book!

Absolutely lovely digs. Room was comfortable and had everything I needed, the bathroom was great, and I really liked the snug room (complete with kettle, tea, and biscuits!) Easy 15-20min walk to the theatre. Would definitely stay here again.

From the moment I arrived at Gilly and Lisa’s I felt at home. They are the perfect hosts, friendly and attentive, yet respectful of personal space/time. The rooms are immaculately clean and the facilities are brilliant. Best digs I’ve stayed at!!
