Large, bright room with an easy walk into the centre of historic York.
Located in a quiet and attractive neighbourhood, facing the Knavesmire and very close to the York Racecourse, the house is a late Victorian end of terrace that used to be a guesthouse but now is just home to us and anyone else who fancies staying!
You'll have a large airy room at the front of the house on the second floor with a super king size bed, wardrobe, desk and chairs. PLEASE NOTE: There is no access to the main kitchen of the house but there is a 'kitchenette' on the first floor which includes various amenities such as a microwave, hot plate, toaster, kettle and fridge etc.
The en-suite has a shower cubicle, toilet and sink. There is no bath.
Fresh linen and towels are provided.
There is Wi-Fi throughout the house.
If there is anything else you require for the room let me know and if it's anywhere in the house you can have it!
Please also note this room is on the second floor but with your own key to your private room and en-suite you can come and go as you see fit. Although I live in the house too, the floor arrangement from its previous life as a guesthouse lends itself perfectly to hosting others - so you are part of the house but you stay private too. However, I am only a phone call or email away should you need me.
From 5pm on Friday until 9am Monday the whole area around the house is free for parking. Otherwise 9 - 5 each weekday is restricted but only directly outside the house. York is a difficult city to park in, and you certainly won't be able to drive to the theatres and park near them, but there is general parking very near by (a few spaces) and a couple of minutes walk there is a lot more. I can explain this to you more as and when.
This is an attractive and quiet area yet close to the historic centre of the city and its many attractions. The house is within easy walking distance of the railway station, all the theatres, and the city centre. This depends on your stride and purpose I suppose but I'd say that it is genuinely about a 15-minute walk to any of these.
Alternatively a regular bus service operates from the end of the road into the city centre and a local 24 hour taxi service is also available to take you wherever you fancy.
Many cafes and restaurants close to us offer various food options to suit all tastes and budgets. I have lists and maps available for you to use - which show the local supermarkets etc too. The famous 'Bishy Road' area is minutes away and has most things available there that you might need including various food and gift shops, a chemist, a few cafes and even a hardware store!
On race days the area around can be very busy with some roads blocked off. If this is likely to effect your visit I'll let you know from the outset.
I have undertaken a fairly extensive refurbishment project - updating the rooms from their previous incarnation as a more traditional Bed & Breakfast. This largely cosmetic project has seen the replacement of patterned carpets and velour headboards with a more neutral and contemporary feel (I hope you agree!) But it reflects my taste for the colourful and eclectic so there is much artwork about (which often changes) and splashes of bright colour and, of course, the 'retro' bathroom suites remain in all their glory!
Fundamentally this is my home. It's a living, breathing place so it's NOT a hotel, B&B or just a business. I live in a part of it and so the rest is up for grabs! It's hopefully a peaceful and safe place from which you feel you want to base your York theatre work/adventures.
